The Yoga Residential Course at the Wildman-Chard Centre

The Wildman-Chard Centre for Yoga, Health and Beauty offers customised residential courses, with amenities, in a safe and pleasant atmosphere dedicated to balancing the development of inner strength with ample free time for participants. The arrangements are designed for any level of Yoga expertise, including complete beginners.

Courses range from 4 to 14 days with congenial groups of 4 to 8 persons. Onsite or nearby accommodation is provided in twin rooms, with adjoining large bathroom and separate shower room.

The most important requirements - relaxation and high quality food - are easily ensured. An early morning cockerel or distant peal of church bells by day provide a relaxing and completely natural background. Our qualified resident chef Gordon is happy to cater for special diets, whilst creating excellent food. We offer a wide range of specialised dishes, and the delicious homemade cakes and puddings, which are Gordon's speciality!

 

The main teaching area is located on the ground floor of the Centre in an 80 sq.m. mirrored room which provides a spacious quiet atmosphere overlooking the private garden and barbecue areas. A summer plunge pool is available in this area, while an additional large roof terrace offers an ideal outside Yoga site during most of the year. This totally private sun and shade area, suitable for discreet sun-bathing, gives spectacular views of mountains and countryside, as well as over the town. Two additional terraces allow for quiet moments, dining and conversations. A charming small Andalusian court-yard is available for studying, practicing, meditating alone, or for extra tutorials if desired.

The evening meal of 3 courses is served in the dining room, with a selection of music on request while you enjoy your food. An extensive library and full internet access are set aside for students. The Centre is well located, within walking distance of local restaurants, café bars, a supermarket, a book store, many shops and boutiques and a nightclub. The town is very picturesque and it is also very safe to amble around alone, at any time of day or night. The local residents are warm-hearted and dignified, delighted to encounter non-Spaniards. Those wishing to chill out with a book or revise the day´s work often enjoy the students´ private sitting room, with comfortable chairs and African theme.

The Typical Course Day

(Please note that, while some of the following elements may be customized or adapted to suit the pace of participants, the quality of both the teaching and the exercises remains at a high standard.)

  • Rise at dawn to see the sun come up over the roof terrace.
  • 30 minutes breathing (Pranayama) and Meditation welcomes in the new day.
    (Dawn exercises are offered inside the Centre if the weather is unsuitable).
  • A break to bathe or shower before breakfast.
  • Breakfast is served on one of the balconies or in the dining room.
  • A short break is allowed for digestion.
  • One hour of Asanas (postures) is conducted in one of the teaching rooms, or on the roof terrace.
  • A break for mid-morning tea.
  • A one hour academic session is taught, in the main teaching room, on either Anatomy, Physiologyor the History and Philosophy of Yoga.
  • A break to freshen up before lunch.
  • A light lunch is served inside or out.
  • A 3 hour break allows students to make use of the Centre´s many other facilities or excursions, or simply to relax, go into town, write letters, listen to music, have round-table discussions, etc. Centre facilities are available onsite at special rates for course participants: A complete range of specialised "state of the art" skin and beauty treatments, a wide spectrum of massage services, a small gymnasium, a hairdresser...
  • Early evening - a one hour session of Asanas and Pranayamas/Meditation.
  • One hour free time to prepare for the evening meal.
  • The evening meal of 3 courses is served in the dining room.
  • After the main meal Yoga students are free to go out, to stay in and relax in one of the sitting rooms or on one of the terraces, to watch a film, do gymnastics, have an extra tutoring session, etc.
